On July 9th, Illinois lawmakers rushed to sign off on the bill that would enact the final concealed gun law in the nation. Under this bill, which was voted 41-17 in favor of the override Tuesday afternoon after House representatives voted 77-31, would allow anyone with a Firearm Owners Identification card that has also passed a background check and undergone a gun-safety program totaling 16 hours to obtain a concealed-carry permit for only $150.
This may bring a sigh of release to some residents but those within the city limits of Chicago are terrified and fearful that this new law will only make an already deadly living situation worse. In less than 24 hours, many residents from all over the city have begun to blast the decision stating issues with everything from the lack of training time and danger it may pose to residents.
